Rhode Island Chapter of the American Choral Director's Association

RI-ACDA HOME

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Choral Conductor,

As a choral conductor and music educator, I feel privileged to have made music education my career for the last fifteen years. I cannot think of anything else I would rather do. I began my association with ACDA as a freshman in college at California State University, Fresno, and since then I have actively participated in and supported ACDA related activities at many levels. I believe that as an organization, ACDA is critically important for the serious choral musician and music educator. The incredible support offered through state, regional and national conferences, national publications as well as print and online resources help to make ACDA an invaluable part of the choral profession.

I have worked as a choral music educator at the Middle School, High School, Church, Community and Collegiate levels usually balancing more than one of these at a time. Now, I continue my work as the Director of Choral Activities and Music Education at Providence College where I also teach applied voice and conducting.

As the President of the Rhode Island chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and my years as an educator, conductor, and performer I am dedicated to:

·         Providing a musically creative and focused sense of educational purpose to the state of Rhode Island through choral music.

·         Promoting the development of choral groups in schools, churches, synagogues and local communities in order to help foster a better understanding of the importance of choral music in contemporary society.

·         Working in concert with state, regional and national ACDA officers to maintain open lines of communication that will encourage musical growth in the state of Rhode Island.

·         Encouraging new membership and promoting the American Choral Directors Association here in Rhode Island as an advocate for choral music and music education in coordination with the Rhode Island Music Educators Association.

As an active member in good standing of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Collegiate Choral Organization, I am a staunch advocate for the advancement and promotion of music education and choral music at all levels.

Sincerely,
T.J. Harper
